Children’s health in Pune has recently come under the spotlight due to a concerning rise in illnesses such as Chikungunya and Dengue. The suffering involves fever followed by pain lasting from a few weeks to a few months. Currently, children are exhibiting signs of encephalitis (brain covering inflammation). Additionally, there is a risk of liver infection, appearance of body rashes turning black, seizures, and some children even being kept under observation in ICU.

There are many cases of dengue among small children leading to major drop in platelets making it difficult for them to regain strength. But with timely medication and nutritious wholesome diet strength can be regained. A seven month old child with Chikungunya symptoms suffered severe complications due to high grade fever affecting her brain, she suffered seizures, leading to admission to the intensive care unit, falling under pediatric infectious diseases.
