Pune News: Teacher Arrested For Harassing 19 Female Students in Mulshi

A 40-year-old teacher was arrested on Friday for allegedly making sexual comments and harassing 19 female students in grades V to X at a private school in Mulshi. The Pune rural police detained him at his home in Loni Kalbhor and later presented him in court, which ordered him to remain in custody until September 8.
Inspector Santosh Girigosavi from the Paud police stated that some of the students initially reported the teacher’s inappropriate conduct to their principal, who then informed the school’s management committee. On September 5, committee members visited the school to investigate the matter. Nineteen students provided their statements, leading to the police being notified. One committee member filed a formal complaint, resulting in charges against the teacher under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including section 74 (outraging modesty), section 75 (making sexually colored remarks), and section 79 (making gestures or uttering words meant to insult a woman’s modesty), as well as sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
