Pune News: Woman Traveller At Swargate Bus Stand Loses Jewellery Worth Rs 2.2 LakhsÂ
The festive season of Diwali turned sour for several passengers traveling through Maharashtra State Transport (ST) stations, as a string of daring thefts was reported across various locations. At Swargate ST station, thieves made off with gold jewelry worth Rs 2.2 lakh from a female passenger’s bag while she boarded an ST bus to Barshi.
The victim’s husband, a resident of Loni Kalbhor, filed a complaint with Swargate police station, stating that the theft occurred amidst the crowded Diwali rush. Police Sub-Inspector Shirsat is investigating the incident.
This incident was not an isolated one, as several other cases of theft were reported at ST stations across the state. In another incident at Swargate ST station, thieves snatched a gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh from a senior citizen’s neck. Additionally, a woman passenger traveling from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar area to Pune lost Rs 88,000 to thieves.
Furthermore, a woman passenger at Shivajinagar ST station had jewelry worth Rs 3.5 lakh stolen from her bag. The rise in thefts during Diwali is attributed to the increased crowd at ST stations, with students and employees traveling to their hometowns.
Passengers have expressed concerns about the lack of police presence at ST stations, compromising security. “There is no police presence in ST station premises,” said a passenger, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures.
The recurring incidents of theft have raised questions about the effectiveness of security measures at ST stations. With the festive season seeing a surge in passenger traffic, authorities must prioritize ensuring the safety and security of travelers.
