Pune, August 14, 2025: If you are planning a trip to Sinhagad Fort, you will now have to break your old habit of just kick-starting your two-wheeler or starting your car and heading straight there. Before visiting the fort, tourists will need to make a prior booking through the “Kille Sinhagad” mobile app.

Sinhagad will become the first fort in Maharashtra where entry requires pre-registration via an app. Initially, this system will be implemented on a trial basis for a few days, after which app-based registration will be made mandatory.

This facility will benefit both tourists and forest officials throughout the year. Sinhagad is a favourite weekend destination for Pune residents, but the growing number of visitors every year often causes traffic congestion on the ghat roads, especially on holidays.

In the past two monsoons, sudden surges of 12,000–15,000 visitors on Sundays have raised safety concerns. On two occasions, landslides in the ghat left tourists stranded on the fort. To regulate such uncontrolled tourism, the forest department has planned various measures over the coming year, and developing the “Kille Sinhagad” mobile app is one of them.

According to Forest Range Officer Manoj Barbole of the Pune Forest Department, the app will provide officials with real-time information on daily tourist inflow, enabling them to close entry immediately if overcrowding is detected. The app will be effective soon after conducting the necessary trials.

The app, launched recently by State Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Through it, tourists can:

  • Book their visit online
  • Access historical information about Sinhagad
  • Learn about local flora and fauna
  • Receive alerts on traffic jams, bee attacks, accidents, or forest fires
  • Check parking availability near the fort

An iOS version will be available soon. Once active on both Android and iOS, online booking will become compulsory for all visitors. The forest department will also announce a daily cap on the number of tourists allowed.
