Pimpri, October 8, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched an extensive water meter installation drive to improve the city’s water supply planning and management. Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil has directed officials to file criminal cases against any individual or group obstructing this campaign. He also instructed that action to disconnect unauthorized water connections be expedited.

Considering the city’s rapid population growth and limited water resources, accurate planning and accountability in water distribution have become essential. The civic body has made it mandatory to install water meters on all types of water connections to track supply, prevent leakage, and curb unauthorized usage. This initiative, led by the Water Supply Department, aims to create a comprehensive database of all consumers and eliminate illegal connections.

So far, over 10,000 unauthorized water connections have been identified across Pimpri Chinchwad. The cost of installing meters and connections for domestic users will be recovered in installments through their water bills, PCMC stated, urging residents to cooperate and install meters without delay.

The civic body has also tightened scrutiny of commercial water usage, warning establishments such as hotels, washing centers, construction sites, RO plants, and restaurants to immediately stop unauthorized use of potable water. Those with illegal connections must regularize them and install meters at the earliest.
