Pune, October 13, 2025: The Maharashtra government has announced that only those voters whose names are included in the electoral roll updated till July 1, 2025, will be eligible to vote in the forthcoming civic elections, including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) polls.

According to a government notification issued on Thursday, all municipal corporations in the state will use the July 1 electoral roll for the upcoming elections. “The electoral roll for each ward will be finalised based on the electoral roll of the state Assembly constituencies as of July 1,” said Prasad Katkar, Deputy Election Officer (PMC).

The PMC’s elected body completed its five-year term in 2022. Since then, the civic administration has been managed by commissioners appointed by the state government. The delay in elections was due to a legal challenge regarding reservation quotas, but the Supreme Court has now directed the state government to conduct the civic elections by January 2026.

Based on Pune’s population, the government has fixed the total number of corporators at 165. The city will have 41 electoral wards — 40 wards will elect four members each, while one ward will elect five. Of these, 83 seats will be reserved for women. The caste-based reservation of seats, however, is yet to be finalised.

The PMC has also completed the delimitation of electoral wards after conducting public hearings to address citizens’ suggestions and objections.

In the political arena, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, had earlier defeated the MVA alliance (Congress, Shiv Sena-UBT, and NCP-SP) in the Assembly elections despite its weaker performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
