Pune: Over 1,300 Pressure Cookers Seized from Truck in Pre-Poll Operation at Alephata
Pune: An SST (Static Surveillance Team) intercepted a truck carrying 1,361 pressure cookers on the Nagar-Kalyan Highway during a routine checkpoint on Monday afternoon. The incident comes just ahead of the polling day on November 20 for the Junnar Assembly constituency, where election campaigning concluded the same day.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was allegedly transporting the pressure cookers to distribute them in Aalephata. The Election Code of Conduct enforcement team has since intensified monitoring.
According to Alephata police, the truck was en route from Latur to Rahuri in Ahmednagar district. However, its deviation towards Alephata raised suspicions. Upon stopping the vehicle and verifying its transport documents, the SST handed it over to the local police for further investigation.
The driver disclosed during questioning that the pressure cookers were to be delivered to certain individuals in Aalephata. The matter has been reported to the election department, which is now conducting a thorough inquiry. Further action will follow based on the findings.
The incident has brought renewed attention to election-related activities in the Junnar constituency, already under scrutiny for several reasons. Authorities remain vigilant to ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct.
