Pimpri, September 25, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) turned Bhakti Shakti Chowk into a hub of civic pride and collective action on Thursday, as more than 2,000 citizens came together for a massive cleanliness campaign under the initiative ‘Shramdaan – One Day, One Hour, Together.’ In a spirited morning atmosphere, participants pledged to dedicate regular time towards keeping their surroundings clean. 

The drive covered stretches leading to Transport Nagar Chowk, Dehuroad Chowk, Ankush Chowk, Pimpri Chowk, and Akurdi Chowk, resulting in the collection of nearly 12 tonnes of waste. The campaign was inaugurated by MLC Uma Khapre and PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

Senior officials present on the occasion included Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate and Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar. A delegation from Agartala Municipal Corporation, Tripura – comprising Assistant Commissioner Amit Karmakar, Assistant Accounts Officer Balai Chandra Das, Deputy Project Coordinator Surojit Das, Finance Officer Pawan Parik, and Social Safeguards Officer Rekha Dubey – also joined the campaign as part of their study visit. Students from schools, colleges, social organisations, and senior citizen groups participated with great enthusiasm.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner Shekhar Singh said, “Pimpri Chinchwad ranked first in Maharashtra and seventh in India in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. The real credit goes to our sanitation workers who work tirelessly every day to keep the city clean. With Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 ahead, we must aim even higher. Today’s response shows that citizens – from students to senior citizens – are eager to play their part. With this collective effort, Pimpri Chinchwad can set a national benchmark for cleanliness.”

The programme also featured a Zumba session led by the Fit My City group, adding vibrancy to the campaign. Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar introduced the initiative, while PRO Prafull Puranik and RJ Bandya anchored the proceedings.

New Cleanliness Brand Ambassadors Announced: 

PCMC announced the appointment of Cleanliness Brand Ambassadors for 2025, representing different city zones. The ambassadors include:

Zone A: Pawan Sharma

Zone B: Mohan Gaikwad

Zone C: Arvind Bhosale, Tanaji Bhosale

Zone D: Dr. Nandkumar Dhumal, Balasaheb Salunkhe

Zone E: Vilas Naiknavare, Sujata Pardeshi

Zone F: Sunil Kadam

Zone G: Manisha Rathod

Zone H: Aditi Nikam

City-wide: RJ Bandya

All ambassadors were felicitated by Commissioner Shekhar Singh and will play a key role in promoting awareness and action on cleanliness across their respective zones.

Signature Campaign Gains Momentum

A signature campaign held at Bhakti Shakti Chowk drew enthusiastic participation. Commissioner Shekhar Singh also endorsed the initiative by signing the board with the message – “Cleanliness is Service.”
