Pune: Pankaj Deore Appointed As New CMD Of PMPML
Pune, July 18, 2025: Pankaj Deore has been appointed as the new chairman and managing director (CMD) of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), the city’s public transport utility. Deore takes over from Deepa Mudhol-Munde, the outgoing CMD, who has been transferred as commissioner of the social welfare department.
Deore’s appointment was announced on Thursday evening following his promotion to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). This will be his first assignment as an IAS officer. Prior to this, he served as chairman of the caste verification committee in Latur district.
Mudhol-Munde, who assumed charge of PMPML in July last year, was known for her proactive leadership. During her tenure, she personally travelled on PMPML buses to understand commuters’ concerns and encouraged other officials to adopt a hands-on approach. Several key reforms and operational measures to improve the city’s public transport system were implemented under her leadership.
Since the formation of PMPML in 2007, frequent transfers of CMDs have hampered the organisation’s stability. Except for RN Joshi, who served a complete tenure in 2012, no other officer has completed the full five-year term. This lack of continuity has been a persistent challenge for PMPML, affecting operations and passenger services.
Deore’s appointment is expected to bring fresh momentum to the organisation as it works to address pressing issues in Pune’s public transport network.
