Pune, September 19, 2025: Heavy evening showers accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several parts of Pune on Thursday, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion across key areas during peak hours.

Lohegaon recorded the highest rainfall of 112.2 mm, followed by Shivajinagar with 97.4 mm, Chinchwad with 44 mm, and Lavale with 54.5 mm until 9.20 am on September 19, 2025. Pashan recorded the highest rainfall yesterday with 140 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Officials at IMD stated that rainfall activity is expected to persist over Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad till late at night. Explaining the weather pattern, IMD said that the city’s rainfall was triggered by a cyclonic circulation over Central Maharashtra along with local weather conditions such as high humidity, daytime temperatures around 22°C, and thunderstorm formation.

The downpour caused flooding in several localities including Kothrud, Baner, Pashan, and Chandni Chowk. Many residents took to social media to share visuals of submerged roads, while commuters reported long delays. Motorists on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway described near-zero visibility, calling it unusual for the season.

Looking ahead, IMD has predicted an increase in rainfall from September 22, coinciding with the start of the Navratri festival. A yellow alert has been issued for that day, with expectations of light to moderate showers. Between September 19 and 22, however, no major weather alerts have been declared for Pune.
