Pune, September 11, 2025: Citizens and political parties will get an opportunity to voice their concerns on the recently proposed ward boundaries in the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations this week. The civic bodies have scheduled hearings to address thousands of objections received on their draft delimitation plans.

For the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), hearings will be held on September 11 and 12 at Balgandharva Rangmandir under the supervision of V. Radha, additional chief secretary of the state’s general administration department. The hearings will cover all 41 wards created for the upcoming civic polls. Of these, 40 wards will elect four corporators each, while one ward will have five representatives, bringing the total strength to 165. Officials confirmed that the process will run in two phases: wards 1 to 29 on the first day, and the remaining wards on the second.

The draft ward plan for Pune drew over 5,800 objections before the September 4 deadline. A large share of these came from merged areas, with Narhe–Wadgaon Budruk alone accounting for more than 2,000 submissions. Interestingly, three wards saw no objections at all, while some received only single-digit responses. Many political parties, including Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT), alleged that the ward boundaries ignored natural divisions such as rivers, roads, highways, and hills, which could confuse voters.

Meanwhile, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will hold its hearings on September 10 at the Auto Cluster in Chinchwad. Pravin Darade, principal secretary of the state cooperation, marketing, and textile department, has been appointed to oversee the process. The civic body has received 318 objections, which will be heard in four batches between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
