Pune: PCMC Cracks Down on Dengue Sources, Issues 1,292 Notices, Fines Offenders ₹3.36 Lakh
Pimpri: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched an aggressive campaign to curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria during the monsoon season. A high-level meeting of the Health Department was held today to strategise containment measures, including house inspections, container checks, junkyard monitoring, insecticide spraying, and strict enforcement through penalties.
Under the guidance of PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate, and Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar, the ongoing campaign focuses on both public awareness and action against those posing a threat to public health.
Citywide inspections and enforcement drive by all 8 zonal offices:
House Inspections: A total of 1,84,106 homes were surveyed, and mosquito breeding conditions were found in 3,079 premises.
- Container Checks: Out of 9,56,418 containers inspected, 3,401 were found conducive to mosquito breeding.
- Junkyards: 442 scrap yards were inspected.
- Construction Sites: 697 sites were examined, revealing unhygienic conditions and stagnant water accumulation.
- Notices and Penalties: Notices were issued at 1,292 locations. As many as 122 individuals and establishments were penalised, with fines amounting to Rs 3.36 lakh collected.
Community Awareness Campaigns Underway:
To prevent dengue and malaria outbreaks, PCMC is actively conducting the following awareness and prevention measures:
- Regular insecticide spraying in vulnerable areas
- Door-to-door distribution of informative leaflets
- Training programmes for students in schools
- Localised public awareness initiatives
- Citywide cleanliness drives
