Pune: Phursungi Resident Alleges Rotten Chicken Delivery From Blinkit, Lodges Complaint With FDA
Pune, July 21, 2025: In a concerning incident highlighting food safety lapses, a Pune resident has accused quick-commerce platform Blinkit of delivering expired and spoiled chicken.
Pawan Shinde, a local consumer, reported that on July 21, he received a packet of chicken sourced from Licious via Blinkit. On inspection, he discovered the meat was foul-smelling and visibly spoiled. Most alarmingly, the packaging displayed an expiration date of July 15, 2025 — six days before it was delivered to him.
“This is a serious breach of food safety standards and puts consumer health at risk. Delivering expired and rotten meat is not only unethical but a violation of food safety regulations,” Shinde said in a written complaint.
He has also brought the matter to the attention of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, seeking a thorough investigation into the incident.
In his complaint, Shinde has demanded:
- A written apology from Blinkit acknowledging the lapse.
- A detailed explanation of how expired stock passed their quality checks.
- An assurance that corrective measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“If no prompt response is received, I will escalate this issue further through legal and consumer grievance forums,” Shinde warned.
This incident raises concerns over the supply chain practices of quick-delivery platforms, especially in handling perishable items like meat and dairy products. Consumers are advised to double-check expiration dates and report any such violations to regulatory authorities immediately.
