Pune, September 23, 2025 – Residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Hinjawadi, and Chakan have expressed optimism as metro connectivity plans took a decisive step forward during a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar with MahaMetro MD Shravan Hardikar and Commissioner Shekhar Singh. Citizens highlighted that their long-pending demand for efficient transport to ease congestion in IT and industrial hubs was finally being addressed.

Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge stated, “In a key meeting on 21st September with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, MahaMetro MD Shravan Hardikar, and Commissioner Shekhar Singh, my suggestion to explore a Nigdi to Chakan metro via Talawade was taken into consideration. ”

One of the major points discussed was a new Nigdi–Chakan route via Talawade, covering Cambay Chowk, Mahindra, Mahalunge, and Kharabwadi. Locals believe this will benefit thousands working at Talawade IT Park and Chakan MIDC phases 1–5. The proposed line will act as a Ring Metro, connecting Pimpri-Chinchwad, Hinjawadi, and Chakan. Pune Metro is expected to conduct a survey soon and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for approval.

The revision of the Nigdi–Wakad–Chakan metro alignment also gained traction, with residents noting it would help cover more residential colonies and industrial belts, easing travel for workers commuting daily between Hinjawadi and Chakan.

Infrastructure reviews included plans for double-decker bridges. The first, from Godown Chowk to Chakan on the Pune–Nashik Highway, will integrate the Nashik Phata–Khed Elevated Corridor with the metro line. The second, from Ramwadi to Wagholi, will combine the Pune–Shirur Elevated Corridor with the extension of Metro Line 1, ensuring smoother transit.

Authorities confirmed that after the DPR revision and Talawade extension, a special meeting under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be held to finalize approvals.

Residents also emphasized the importance of extending metro coverage across Pimpri-Chinchwad. Suggestions already under consideration include:

1. A Neo Metro DPR along the HCMTR alignment, with interchanges for Metro Lines 1, 2, 3, and the Nigdi–Chakan corridor.

2. A Nigdi–Wagholi line via Chikhali, Moshi, and Charholi to connect fast-growing residential hubs.

3. A Ramwadi–Pune Airport/Lohegaon line, which could further extend towards Vishrantwadi, Dighi, Charholi, and Alandi.

Residents said these measures mark a significant step toward modern, efficient, and integrated urban mobility, which will not only reduce traffic but also improve daily life for IT professionals and industrial workers across Pune Metropolitan Region.
