Pune: PMC Approves City’s First Dog Park In Kharadi After Two Failed Attempts ( Representative Image)
Pune, August 4, 2025: After over two years of planning and two unsuccessful attempts, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally approved the development of the city’s first dedicated dog park in Kharadi. The park will be developed on a 3-acre plot located in survey numbers 25 and 26.
The PMC’s veterinary department gave the official go-ahead last week. Earlier proposals to set up dog parks in Katraj and Baner were dropped due to administrative hurdles. The Katraj proposal was rejected by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) due to restrictions under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, while the Baner land was reassigned to another civic department.
The Kharadi dog park will include fenced play areas, shaded zones, drinking water stations, and waste disposal bins. Additional amenities such as a jogging track, swimming pool, pet grooming parlour, parking, and veterinary care will be introduced in phases.
This is PMC’s first approved pet-friendly park, marking a significant step toward supporting animal welfare and pet-friendly urban infrastructure in Pune.
