Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started the demolition of the Sadhu Vaswani Railway Overbridge (ROB) in the Koregaon Park area. According to the civic body’s plan, the process of demolishing the current bridge and building a new one will span at least one and a half years. During this time, traffic will be rerouted through Mangaldas Road, Bund Garden Road, and Dhole Patil Road to manage the flow effectively.

The Sadhu Vaswani Railway Overbridge (ROB) in the Koregaon Park area was constructed by the state Public Works Department (PWD) approximately 50 years ago. Initially, the PMC contemplated repairing the old flyover due to traffic concerns. However, in February 2021, the civic body engaged a consultant to evaluate whether strengthening the bridge was a viable option instead of demolition.

After reviewing the consultant’s report, the PMC made the decision to proceed with demolishing the old flyover and constructing a new one in its place. This strategic move aims to address the long-term infrastructure needs and ensure the safety and efficiency of the bridge for the community. The new Sadhu Vaswani Railway Overbridge (ROB) is projected to require an investment of ₹83 crore. It is planned to have a length of 640 meters, a total width of 17.150 meters, and a height of 6.90 meters. These specifications indicate that the new bridge will be a substantial infrastructure project aimed at enhancing transportation in the area.
