Pune: PMC Fails To Mention 40% Property Tax Rebate On Bills Despite Prior Assurance, Alleges Activist

Pune Municipal Corporation Appeals Citizens To Pay Property Tax By June 30 To Avail Discount
There had been considerable confusion recently regarding the 40% rebate in property tax. Citizens cannot determine from the property tax bills whether they have received this rebate or not, which only adds to the confusion.
This is a fundamental need of tax-paying citizens. Unfortunately, not only the citizens but also officials and staff in the Property Tax Department of PMC cannot tell from the bill whether the 40% rebate has been granted—they have to search for this information in the PMC computer system.
In this context, we had written to you on March 26, 2025, requesting that from this year onward, it should be clearly mentioned on the property tax bill whether the 40% rebate has been applied, so that the ambiguity among taxpayers is resolved. You had also accepted this demand and informed the media that such a mention would be made on the bills, said a letter sent by Vivek Velankar, President, Sajag Nagrik Manch.
However, even after sending the bills one month late this year, the Pune Municipal Corporation has failed to include a clear statement regarding the 40% rebate on the bills.
This information is already present in the PMC’s computerized system, and printing it on the bill is not rocket science. Still, the failure to do so is both baffling and infuriating, he added.
