Pune: PMC Imposes ₹10,000 Fine On NIBM Road Based Builder For Discharging Sewage Onto Public Road
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has levied a ₹10,000 fine on a prominent builder Acropolis Purple Developers for discharging untreated sewage onto public roads in the NIBM Annexe area. The action was taken on Thursday by the civic body’s health department following complaints from local residents.
A PMC official from the health department Navnath Shelar stated, “Similar violations have been observed in the past. The department is committed to addressing such breaches and ensuring compliance with health and sanitation norms.”
Residents of the area have long struggled with issues like sewage overflow, waterlogging, and poorly maintained streets. Many welcomed the civic body’s recent action but expressed frustration over years of neglect.
“This step was much needed, but it’s overdue. For over a decade, we’ve suffered due to PMC’s inaction despite paying significant property taxes. The area deserves better,” said a resident of the locality.
Despite attempts to reach the developer for comment, no response was received.
The PMC has pledged continued vigilance in the area to curb further violations and address persistent complaints.
“We are relieved that the health department has finally taken action, but we will continue to demand more,” said Danish Khan, a resident of Imperial Society. “The PMC’s negligence has caused us immense suffering for over a decade, and it’s time they are held accountable.”
The area’s residents have been facing numerous issues, including overflowing sewage, waterlogging, and garbage-filled streets. Despite repeated complaints, the PMC has failed to address these concerns, leading to a breakdown in civic amenities.
Citizens have now demanded that criminal cases be registered against the PMC for negligence and dereliction of duty. With the health department’s cleaning drive underway, residents hope that their area will finally get the attention it deserves.
“The civic collapse in NIBM Annexe Mohammadwadi is appalling, especially considering the Rs 200 crore property tax collected from residents. It’s nothing short of criminal negligence. We urgently need anti-corruption agencies to probe the PMC and fix responsibility for this mess. Our lives are at risk due to the PMC’s inaction, and it’s time we demand accountability. The environmental damage, poor road conditions, and blatant disregard for citizen concerns are all symptoms of a larger problem – the PMC’s utter disregard for the well-being of its citizens” said Jaymala Dhankikar, Prominent Civic Rights Activist.
