Pune, August 9, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that all residential and commercial properties, whether under construction or already completed, must display their nameplates in Marathi. The directive takes effect immediately, according to a circular issued on Friday by municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.

The decision aligns with the state government’s Marathi language policy and follows recommendations from the city engineer’s office. As per the order, the names of buildings, housing societies, and commercial establishments must be prominently displayed in Marathi at the front of the property.

This move comes after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Prashant Kanojia, earlier in April, urged the civic body to ensure that all residential and commercial complexes adopt Marathi signboards.
