Pune: PMC To Build Grade Separator Connecting Pashan-Sus Road To Mumbai–Bengaluru Bypass For Smoother Traffic Flow
Pune, October 9, 2025: In a move aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving road safety, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced the construction of a grade separator linking Pashan-Sus Road with the Mumbai–Bengaluru bypass near Chandni Chowk.
The new infrastructure will provide direct access from Pashan to the service road leading to the bypass, addressing long-standing traffic issues and preventing wrong-way driving, a common cause of accidents in the area.
Currently, vehicles traveling from Pashan towards Chandni Chowk must cross the flyover, take a U-turn, and enter a subway to access the service road — a route that adds several extra kilometres. To save time, many drivers use the wrong side of the road along a steep slope, creating a serious safety hazard.
The grade separator will provide a direct link from Pashan to the service road towards Chandni Chowk. A retaining wall will also be constructed alongside the road, and the total project cost is estimated at around ₹9 crore.
The Pune City Police had earlier urged PMC to improve connectivity between Pashan and the highway, noting that the absence of a direct route was worsening congestion and causing risky driving behaviour.
Residents of Pashan have also voiced concerns about the increasing volume of traffic on the Pashan-Sus Road, especially during peak hours.
The Pashan-Sus stretch has developed rapidly in recent years due to its proximity to Hinjewadi IT Park and several major institutions, including Symbiosis International University, FLAME University, and Dhruv International School. The area also hosts prominent establishments like LUPIN and adventure park, adding to daily traffic pressure.
With the upcoming grade separator, PMC aims to streamline vehicular movement, enhance safety, and provide much-needed relief to commuters traveling between Pashan, Sus, and Chandni Chowk.
