Pune’s Construction Boom Worsens Traffic Woes, Police Highlight Key ConcernsÂ
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had ordered over 200 construction projects to halt work for failing to implement pollution control measures. However, several projects have continued operations despite the ban, prompting PMC to escalate the matter to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare confirmed that only 55 out of 208 projects have complied with the required regulations and have been granted permission to resume work. The remaining projects have not fulfilled the necessary conditions, yet some have restarted construction unlawfully. PMC will now file a formal complaint with MPCB against these violators.
In a recent meeting at the municipal office, attended by architects and officials, Waghmare emphasized that air pollution in Pune has reached critical levels and that compliance with MPCB guidelines is mandatory for all construction projects. Work will only be allowed on sites that adhere to the rules.
PMC had previously issued notices to 208 projects found violating pollution norms, instructing them to stop work. Over the past two months, only 50 builders have submitted the required documents, while more than 150 projects remain non-compliant. Authorities have warned of strict action against those ignoring regulations.
