Pune, August 4, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch the city’s largest public parking facility in Kothrud, aiming to address growing congestion and lack of organized parking in the area. Located near City Pride in the Gokhale Business Bay area (Survey No. 20/2), the facility spans over 13,000 square metres and will accommodate up to 364 cars and 402 two-wheelers.
According to Dinkar Gojare, PMC’s Chief Engineer (Projects), the parking lot is expected to open within the next two weeks, pending final technical approvals. The space was initially mandated as part of the approval process for the adjacent commercial complex and has now officially been handed over to the civic body for public use.
Despite PMC managing 30 parking lots citywide and earning ₹6 crore annually from them, Kothrud has remained without any municipal parking infrastructure. The rapid development in the area over the past decade—including residential, commercial, and institutional growth—has resulted in a surge of vehicles and an acute shortage of parking.
Locals often struggle to find space, resorting to roadside parking in areas such as Warje Malwadi and Dashbhuja Chowk.
Citizens also hope that similar projects will follow in other traffic-prone areas across Pune.
