Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced its annual budget for 2025-26, amounting to ₹12,618 crore, with a primary focus on infrastructure development and public transport. Notably, there will be no increase in municipal taxes, and ₹623 crore has been allocated for the development of newly merged villages.

The budget comprises ₹7,093 crore for revenue expenses and ₹5,524 crore for capital projects. Last year’s budget was ₹11,601 crore, out of which ₹6,500 crore (55%) has been collected so far, with a projected total revenue collection of ₹8,400 crore. Nearly 70% of the previous year’s budget has been utilized.

Key Highlights of the Budget

  • No Tax Hike: There will be no increase in municipal taxes.
  • Road Infrastructure: ₹75 crore allocated for land acquisition for Katraj-Kondhwa Road and ₹50 crore for its construction. ₹33 crore for missing road links and ₹15 crore for land acquisition.
  • Public Transport: Funds have been allocated for purchasing PMPML buses.
  • Merged Villages Development: ₹623 crore has been set aside for the development of newly merged villages.
  • Healthcare: The “Amrit Mahotsavi Pune Health Campaign” will be launched. A Metropolitan Surveillance Unit, including a lab and trained staff, will be set up for disease control.
  • Water Supply & Sewage Treatment: 74 out of 141 water supply zones have been completed, and 66 water tanks have been constructed. Five out of 11 JICA-backed STP plants will be completed in the coming year.
  • Education: A “Sister School” initiative will be introduced for municipal schools. CCTV cameras will be installed in schools, and a competitive exam center will be set up at the City Library.
  • Sports & Arts: A sports complex will be developed in Mohammadwadi, and funds have been allocated for sculptures made from scrap materials.
  • Urban Poor Schemes: New initiatives will be introduced to support the urban poor.
  • Crematorium Modernization: Cremation grounds will be upgraded with modern facilities.
  • Digital Governance: A mobile app for construction permits and other municipal services will be launched, along with an expansion of the E-office system for administrative efficiency.
  • Revenue Generation: Municipal properties will be utilized efficiently to increase revenue.
  • Grievance Redressal: A committee at the zonal deputy commissioner level will be set up to address citizen complaints.
  • Traffic Planning & Management: 33 major roads will be upgraded, and the traffic management cell will be modernized.
  • Land Acquisition: Since TDR (Transfer of Development Rights) has not been effective, over ₹200 crore has been allocated for direct land acquisition.
  • Cluster Development: Ekta Nagari will undergo cluster-based development.
  • Medical College: Construction is progressing and is expected to be completed by 2025-26.
  • Affordable Housing: 4,173 houses will be provided at reasonable rates under PMAY.
  • Infrastructure Projects: A grade separator will be built at Mundhwa and Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk.
  • Disaster Management: A dedicated disaster management unit will be established.
  • Municipal Recruitment: PMC will conduct hiring to fill vacant positions.

This budget, presented by Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, marks the third consecutive year of administrator-led governance and prioritizes road network upgrades, metro connectivity, and civic amenities over new schemes.
