Pune: PMC Warns Citizens Against Fake Property Tax Agents
Pune, August 20, 2025– The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a warning to citizens against fraudsters posing as “property tax agents” and falsely promising to reduce tax bills or settle outstanding dues.
The civic body clarified that no such scheme exists and urged residents to make payments only through official platforms.
Avinash Sakpal, head of PMC’s property tax department, said, “Some people are misleading citizens by claiming they can reduce their tax amount or settle pending dues.”
“They are even collecting cash illegally. PMC has no connection with such individuals, and we will not take responsibility if anyone falls victim to such fraud,” he added.
Officials confirmed that a few citizens have already been cheated by such agents. To prevent further cases, the property tax department has advised residents to pay dues only via PMC citizen facilitation centres or the official online payment system.
Meanwhile, PMC is continuing its drive to recover dues from defaulters. Most regular taxpayers have already cleared their bills in the first two months of the financial year to benefit from the 5% and 10% amnesty schemes.
