Pune: PMPML Drivers To Face Suspension For Using Mobile Phones Or Headphones While DrivingÂ
Pune, September 8, 2025: In a strict move prioritising passenger safety, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced that drivers caught using mobile phones or headphones while driving buses will face immediate suspension.
The decision was taken during a PMPML board meeting held on September 4, 2025, where the Regional Transport Officer and Director highlighted serious concerns over drivers’ unsafe practices. Instances were reported of some drivers talking on their phones or using headphones while operating buses. One such incident even resulted in an accident, prompting strong displeasure from the authorities.
As per the new directive, bus drivers will now be required to deposit their mobile phones with the conductor before beginning duty, and the phones will only be returned once the duty ends. Any violation of this rule—either through direct observation or complaint—will lead to the driver’s immediate suspension.
The order extends to private bus contractors working under PMPML as well, with depot managers instructed to ensure compliance.
Emphasising the importance of public safety, the PMPML administration has urged all drivers to act responsibly and follow the rules strictly while on duty.
