Pune: PMRDA's Crackdown, Over 2,000 Encroachments Cleared In Nine Days
Pune, March 12: In a decisive drive against illegal constructions, the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) has cleared nearly 2,000 unauthorized structures along major national and state highways around Pune in the last nine days.
This action has freed approximately 200,000 square meters of encroached land, significantly easing traffic congestion in affected areas.
The rise in unauthorized constructions in Pune and its outskirts had been causing severe traffic issues, leading to difficulties for commuters. To tackle this, a joint operation was launched by PMRDA, the National Highways Authority, the Public Works Department, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Since the campaign started on March 3, authorities have demolished 1,992 illegal structures by March 11, clearing a total of 199,200 square feet of encroached land.

The focus of the drive has been on encroachments along key highways such as Pune-Nashik Road, Pune-Solapur Road, and Chandni Chowk to Paud Road. During this operation, some encroachers voluntarily removed their structures, cooperating with the administration. Officials have urged businesses and residents to obtain proper permissions before any construction.

“The increasing encroachments in Pune are causing severe traffic congestion, leading to inconvenience for citizens. This special drive aims to resolve the issue, ensuring smoother traffic movement in the coming days.” Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Metropolitan Commissioner, PMRDA.
