In a massive crackdown on drug trafficking, the Pune city police made its largest-ever drug haul in 2024, confiscating narcotics worth ₹3,680.2 crores and registering 129 cases According to reports given by the Times of India. This significant achievement surpasses the previous year’s seizures, which stood at ₹13.6 crores in 135 cases in 2023 and ₹9.9 crores in 150 cases in 2022.

A notable seizure was made after raiding a manufacturing factory in Kurkumbh and two godowns in Dhanori and Vishrantwadi, yielding drugs worth ₹3,677 crores. The police also seized various other drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, LSD, poppy straws, and opium.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized the department’s commitment to eradicating drugs from the city. “We will not tolerate drugs in the city and will bust all operational rackets,” he stated. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade added, “Drugs are ruining youngsters and their future, and will not be allowed in the city.”

As part of their efforts, the Pune city police have launched the Nirdhar Campaign, focusing on drug de-addiction and awareness programs. The campaign includes collaborations with organizations to run de-addiction programs, increased surveillance in areas prone to drug consumption, and outreach programs in schools and colleges.

The police will prioritize enforcement, aiming to destroy all channels involved in drug production, distribution, and courier services. The department will also conduct counseling programs, targeting youngsters involved in petty crimes related to drug addiction.
