Pune, June 5 – Acting on the information from PMPML, the Pune Police has launched dedicated patrolling on PMPML buses and at key bus stops and routes across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA areas to enhance passenger safety, especially for women.

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML), which operates 381 routes with over 20,112 daily trips serving 10–11 lakh commuters, had raised concerns about growing incidents of theft, harassment, and vandalism on public transport. These concerns included:

  • Theft of valuables and wallets by unidentified miscreants during transit
  • Eve-teasing and use of inappropriate gestures or words
  • Obscene graffiti and defacement at BRT stations by anti-social elements

Due to multiple complaints—particularly from women, students, and senior citizens—PMPML’s Chairman and Managing Director had requested Pune City Police Commissioner to deploy security teams during peak hours on crowded routes and major terminals.
