Pune Police Book 40 Revellers For RCB Victory Celebrations On Fergusson College Road
Pune | June 6, 2025 — The Deccan Gymkhana police have registered a case against 40 unidentified individuals for public disorder and disobedience of official orders after they gathered on Fergusson College Road late on June 3 to celebrate Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) IPL 2025 title win over Punjab Kings.
Police officials said the revellers blocked traffic, danced on the streets, set off firecrackers, and created a public nuisance near Good Luck Chowk and surrounding areas. The celebrations reportedly caused significant disruption to vehicular movement and posed a safety threat due to overcrowding and fireworks.
Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar from Deccan Gymkhana police station stated, “We have taken suo-motu cognisance and filed a case against the group that celebrated at the chowk after RCB’s win. Despite repeated warnings, they continued blocking the road and bursting firecrackers.”
Police officials highlighted that no prior permission was sought for the gathering, and the celebration turned chaotic, risking public safety. The revellers reportedly occupied the entire width of the road, halting traffic for a prolonged period.
Following the recent stampede in Bengaluru, which claimed 11 lives during an RCB victory celebration at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Pune police are taking preventive action.
Authorities said CCTV footage, including AI-based surveillance systems, will be reviewed to identify those involved. Once traced, the individuals will be summoned to the police station for further legal action.
A case has been registered under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant). Police said awareness efforts will also be taken up to discourage such spontaneous and potentially dangerous public gatherings in the future.
