Pune Police Commissioner Vows Stronger Security For Journalists During Ganesh Festivities
Pune, September 8, 2025: In the wake of an incident where two dhol-tasha groups allegedly misbehaved with journalists during the Ganesh immersion procession, a delegation of the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh met Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Monday to raise their concerns.
During the meeting, various issues related to reporting and the safety of journalists were discussed in detail. Commissioner Kumar assured that adequate measures will be taken to ensure both smooth reporting and the security of journalists in the future.
He stated that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) would be prepared to regulate dhol-tasha groups during processions, including restrictions on the number of members. Ganesh mandals and dhol-tasha group organisers will also be instructed accordingly.
Regarding the recent case of misconduct against a woman journalist, Kumar confirmed that an FIR has been registered and further action will be taken immediately. He also emphasized that police passes issued to journalists already allow them the right to cover events, and this will be communicated clearly to all concerned authorities.
The commissioner assured that prior discussions and preventive measures will be put in place before major events to ensure journalists can carry out their reporting without obstacles.
The meeting was attended by Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh president Brijmohan Patil, general secretary Mangesh Falle, treasurer Dilip Tayade, and a large number of journalists.
