According to statement given by Patil to the media person, eight people have lost their lives in fatal accidents caused by drunk driving in 2024. The checkpoints will be manned by an officer and six policemen, including three traffic police personnel. Motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol will be subjected to a breath analyzer test, and those found guilty will be prosecuted under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA).
First-time offenders will face a fine of Rs 10,000 in the motor accidents court, while repeat offenders may face a fine of Rs 15,000 with two years of imprisonment.
