Pune Police Crack Down On Illegal Firearms Ahead Of Assembly Elections
In a significant operation, the Kalepadal Police Station in Pune has seized two iron-made pistols, four live cartridges, and a mobile phone from two individuals, Ritesh Babasaheb Kasbe and Rahul Sanjay Choudhary, who were found carrying these items with the intention of committing a cognizable crime. The accused were arrested under Section 3 (25) of the Indian Weapons Act and Section 37 (1) of the Bombay Police Act.
According to the police, they received a tip-off about the suspects, who were spotted near the water tank behind Desai Hospital in Hadapsar, Pune. Upon searching them, the police found Ritesh Babasaheb Kasbe with an iron country made pistol on his waist, along with two live cartridges. Rahul Sanjay Choudhary was found with a fake pistol, a mobile phone, and two live cartridges.
The accused admitted to carrying the pistols without a license, intending to terrorize the area of Sathe Nagar, Tarwadwesti. The police have registered a case under Section 135 and seized goods worth Rs. 90,800.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance security and prevent criminal activities during the run-up to the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma have ordered preventive actions against criminals with a history of property crimes and vehicle thefts.
The Kalepadal Police Station team, led by Senior Police Inspector Mansingh Patil and Assistant Police Inspector Amit Shete, has been praised for their commendable performance in this operation. The team included Police Constables Dawood Syed, Amol Katkar, Shri Krishna Khokle, Saddam Tamboli, Mahadev Shinde, and Atul Pandharkar.
Similar operations have been conducted in other parts of Pune, including Yerawada, where two country-made pistols and two bullet rounds were seized from two known criminals . The police are continuing to crack down on illegal firearms and other criminal activities ahead of the assembly elections.
