Pune Police Install 125 Smart Speakers To Streamline Traffic
Pune: In a bid to enhance traffic management and emergency response, Pune City Police have installed 125 Internet Protocol (IP) speakers across major roads and junctions in the city. These smart speakers are connected to a central control room and monitored through CCTV cameras.
The system enables real-time announcements to alert citizens about traffic congestion, road inundation, accidents, tree falls, and other emergency situations, including religious processions and festivals.
The plan is to scale up this network to 500 speakers in the coming years. Police have already covered key roads and junctions, and the remaining areas will be included in phases.
The IP speakers serve a dual purpose—addressing the public and enabling direct communication with police personnel on the ground. This will allow Pune Police to issue instructions swiftly and maintain law and order more effectively.
The system is expected to be particularly useful during large-scale events such as Ashadhi Wari, Ganeshotsav, and New Year celebrations. It will also assist in the smooth movement of ambulances, fire brigades, and VIP vehicles.
Integrated with the traffic control room, the speaker system will support personnel in avoiding and resolving traffic snarls more efficiently.
