Pune Porsche Crash Case: Two JJB Members Dismissed Over Bail Decision for Minor Accused

Pune Porsche Crash: State Removes Two JJB Members Over Controversial Bail for Minor Accused
The Maharashtra government has dismissed two members of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Pune, citing “misuse of power.” This decision, confirmed by the state commissioner for Women and Child Development (WCD) on Thursday, came after an investigation into the controversial bail granted to a 17-year-old accused of causing a fatal car crash in May.
The two board members, LN Danwade and Kavita Thorat, faced scrutiny for their decision to release the minor on bail with conditions that included writing a 300-word essay on road safety. The investigation found them guilty of procedural lapses, misconduct, and failure to adhere to the norms established under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Following the probe, the WCD department issued a notification on Tuesday, formally terminating their appointments.
WCD department commissioner Prashant Narnavare explained that a report recommending their dismissal had been submitted to the state government in July. The case involves a high-speed crash on May 19, in which the minor allegedly drove a Porsche into a motorcycle, resulting in two fatalities. It was also alleged that the minor had been served alcohol at a restaurant before the incident, despite being underage. The case is still ongoing before the Juvenile Justice Board.
