Pune: Power Restored To 41 Rajgad Villages Overnight After Storm Damages Transmission Line
Pune, May 24, 2025 — In a swift and courageous overnight operation, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) restored power to 41 villages in Pune district’s Rajgad taluka by Saturday morning, following a major transmission fault caused by a fierce storm late Friday night.
The outage occurred around 11:30 pm on May 23 when four wires of the 33kV Pabe power line snapped near Kamthadi in a dense forest area, leaving nearly 6,000 domestic, agricultural, and commercial consumers in darkness. Villages affected included Velhe, Pabe, Vajeghar, and surrounding areas.
Braving torrential rain, treacherous terrain, and the threat of wild animals such as wild boars and foxes, a 12-member MSEDCL team launched an emergency repair mission. Led by Deputy Executive Engineer Navnath Ghatule and Junior Engineer Sachin Kulkarni, the team included frontline technicians Sameer Mujawar, Suryakant Shinde, and Ganesh Shinde, among others.
Working through the night with only torchlights and mobile phones for illumination, the team faced multiple challenges. At one point, two foxes approached lead technician Sameer Mujawar, but swift action by colleagues using flashlights helped avert any danger.
By dawn, nearly 90% of the repairs were completed, with the remaining work wrapped up shortly after. Power supply was fully restored by 10:15 am on May 24.
Commending the team’s dedication, Pune Circle Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade lauded their resilience and commitment, calling their efforts “a shining example of service under extreme adversity.”
