Pimpri-Chinchwad, August 19, 2025: Indrayani and Pavana rivers supply 500–600 MLD of water daily to Pimpri-Chinchwad, directly impacting the health of nearly 30 lakh citizens. However, the water quality has been steadily deteriorating due to untreated sewage and industrial effluents being discharged into the rivers.

Raising concern, MLA Mahesh Landge has written to Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, demanding an urgent meeting to accelerate pollution control measures and sewage treatment plant (STP) projects under the river rejuvenation plan.

Landge highlighted that rapid urbanization and industrialization in the PMRDA region have worsened river pollution, leading to loss of biodiversity and dangerously low oxygen levels in the water. He stressed that the proposed STPs must be prioritized, particularly upstream of Nigjoge and Ravet barrages, where pollution levels are high and land is already available.

“Indrayani and Pavana are not just water sources but lifelines for the people of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Protecting them is crucial for the health of 30 lakh citizens. The administration must act swiftly and positively,” Landge urged.
