Pune Railway Division Leads The Way In Sustainable Development By Harnessing Solar Energy At 42 LocationsÂ
Under the visionary guidance of Divisional Railway Manager, Rajesh Verma, and the dedicated leadership of Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (General), Pune, Parag Aknurwar, Pune Division Central Railway has taken a significant step towards sustainable development by harnessing solar energy, reflecting its commitment to environmental conservation and energy efficiency.
The initiative began in 2016 with the installation of a 160 KWp Solar PV Roof Top Power Plant on the PRS building in Pune. Since then, Pune Division has successfully installed Solar Roof Top Power Plants with a total capacity of 2.74 MW across 42 locations, including major stations such as Pune, Daund, Satara, Kolhapur, Shivajinagar, Khadki, and Pimpri. Installations are also in place at the Diesel Loco Shed, DRM Office Building, and other railway establishments.
In addition to rooftop installations, Solar Standalone Street Lights have been strategically placed at remote locations, further enhancing energy utilization through renewable sources.
Remarkable Achievements:
- – 1.80 Lakh Units/Month of Solar Energy generated
- – Rs. 12.0 Lakhs/Month saved in energy costs
- – Equivalent to reducing 3250 Tons/Year of CO2 emissions
- – Environmental impact equivalent to 1.08 Lakh Teak Tree plantations
This remarkable achievement underscores Pune Division’s dedication to sustainability, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.
