Pune Rain Update: Heavy Showers Lash City, IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Multiple Districts
Pune, September 18, 2025: Pune witnessed sudden heavy rainfall this afternoon, leaving citizens caught off guard. The unexpected downpour disrupted normal life, with several parts of the city experiencing waterlogging and traffic issues.
Just a couple of days ago, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning of widespread heavy rain across Maharashtra. After a brief lull, rain has once again returned, particularly hitting Pune city on Thursday afternoon.
The IMD Mumbai office has issued a yellow alert for the next three hours for Pune and surrounding districts, warning of moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph. Districts likely to be affected include Pune, Ahmednagar, Dharashiv, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious during this period.
Weather officials have attributed the rain activity to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which is influencing weather conditions across the state. Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad, and Kolhapur districts have also been placed under a yellow alert, with heavy rain expected in parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada over the next two to three days.
The continuous downpours in several regions of Maharashtra have already caused significant damage to agriculture. Farmers are facing crop losses, while many households have reported damage to essential commodities and food supplies due to rainwater entering homes.
With cloudy skies expected to persist, authorities have urged citizens to stay updated with weather alerts and exercise caution while traveling.
