Pune, August 5, 2025: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) recently uncovered a case of electricity theft worth ₹19.19 lakh in Bhosari MIDC, where an industrial consumer had been stealing power for the past two years using a remote-controlled device. The company has imposed a fine of ₹19.19 lakh on the consumer and seized all equipment used in the theft.

Following directives from MSEDCL Chairman Lokesh Chandra to reduce power distribution losses, Chief Engineer of Pune Zone Sunil Kakade intensified the anti-theft campaign. Under his guidance, Superintendent Engineer of Ganeshkhind Division, Sinhajirao Gaikwad, and Executive Engineer of Bhosari Division, Atul Devkar, formed a special task force.

The team, led by Additional Executive Engineer, included Assistant Engineer Gajanan Zhape and technicians Harshad Lokhande, Somnath Gaikwad, and Mahesh Waghmare. During their inspection at Bhosari MIDC, they found that the industrial consumer ‘M/s Ganesh Pressing’ was using a remote device to manipulate electricity usage.

All equipment used for the theft was seized by MSEDCL. A penalty of ₹19,19,362 was levied for theft of 77,270 units over two years, along with a settlement bill of ₹2.3 lakh, which was collected from the consumer.
