Pune: Residents of Borade Nagar near Kamela on Salunke Vihar Road, Kondhwa, are facing severe health and hygiene risks as blood-contaminated water from nearby slaughterhouses flows into their homes. The issue, which has persisted for a long time, has once again sparked concerns over public safety and environmental hazards.
The affected residents sought the intervention of social activist Rohan Gaikwad from MNS, who highlighted their plight. Speaking to Pune Pulse, Gaikwad stated that the unhygienic conditions were making life miserable for locals. In response, he arranged for a water tanker to clean the affected area and sprayed disinfectants to curb the foul smell and potential health risks.
Shivaji Shinde, a resident, has been consistently following up on the issue with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and even the Prime Minister’s Office. However, despite multiple complaints, no permanent solution has been implemented. The two slaughterhouses in the area—one on Salunke Vihar Road (PMC owned) and another nearby (Pune Cantonment Board) —allegedly discharge waste, including blood and offal, directly into the Bhairoba Nullah, worsening the situation.
Health officer Nina Borade from Pune Municipal Corporation assured that the civic body would inspect the site and take necessary measures to resolve the problem permanently.
Similarly, Kartikey Langhote, an MPCB official, confirmed that he would personally visit the location and take corrective action to prevent future occurrences.
Despite repeated complaints, residents continue to suffer due to inaction. Locals demand an urgent and lasting solution from the authorities to prevent further health and environmental hazards.
A local resident Kunal Borade complained that the problem is very severe and has been affecting us for many years. There was no help from PMC as they kept postponing the duty stating festive holiday and jurisdiction issues. PMC should take corrective steps immediately.
