Pune: Residents Join Hands For Clean Sweep Drive In Wadgaonsheri, Take First Step Towards A Garbage-Free Neighbourhood
Pune, September 15, 2025: Wadgaonsheri came alive with community spirit on Sunday, September 14, as residents, civic officials, and partner organizations joined forces for the much-needed Clean Sweep Drive. The initiative, flagged off at Chhatrapati Shivaji Udyan by Yogesh Mulik, aimed at addressing long-neglected garbage hotspots and unsafe footpaths stretching from Windsor Estate to Konark Splendour.
What began as a daunting task soon turned into a powerful display of teamwork. Over the course of the day, 15 trailer loads of waste were cleared, including wet and dry garbage, rubble, discarded mattresses from PG accommodations, broken furniture, flex boards, wooden planks, and even medical waste such as syringes. Volunteers were reminded of the health hazards lurking in unattended waste when a snake was discovered under one of the rubbish piles.
Residents from housing societies like Belmac, F Residences, Konark Splendour, Nyati Meadows, and Silicon Bay actively participated, proving that change begins at the grassroots level. The initiative also received crucial support from the Adar Poonawala Clean City Initiative team, PMC staff, and the team led by Yogesh and Jagdish Mulik.
While the cleanup marked a strong beginning, organizers acknowledged that chronic garbage spots will need repeated efforts to maintain cleanliness. Damaged pavements uncovered during the drive also demand urgent attention from civic authorities to ensure pedestrian safety.
One of the participants summed up the spirit of the day, saying, “This was like cleaning the Augean stables—a Herculean task—but it showed us what is possible when we come together. Today, we took the first step.”
