Pune Residents Lose ₹30 Lakh To Cybercrooks In Online Task Frauds

Pune news: Sus Woman Duped of Rs 43.5 Lakh in Cyber Scam by Fake Mumbai Crime Branch Officials
Three residents of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have fallen prey to online task frauds, collectively losing ₹30 lakh to cybercrooks. Complaints were filed with the Chinchwad, Kondhwa, and Lonikand police on Wednesday.
In the first incident, a 32-year-old BPO employee from Chinchwad lost ₹12.57 lakh in October this year. The victim received a call from a woman offering him a part-time job, assuring him of a daily income between ₹2,000 and ₹10,000. The victim completed tasks and received payments, but was later duped into investing in prepaid tasks, transferring ₹12.57 lakh to the crooks’ UPI IDs and bank accounts.
In a similar incident, a 26-year-old private company employee from Kondhwa lost ₹12.43 lakh to cybercrooks between April and May this year. The victim was given tasks to ‘like’ videos on a video-sharing app and received payments, but was later lured into investing in prepaid tasks.
A third incident involved a Wagholi resident who lost ₹6.74 lakh in January this year. The victim was given the task of rating furniture in a mall online and was made to transfer money to various bank accounts.
The police have registered cases in all three incidents and are investigating the matter. Residents are advised to be cautious when receiving unsolicited job offers or investment opportunities online.
