Residents of Amardeep Housing Society, located near Ranka Jeweller in Hadapsar, are facing severe inconveniences due to illegal slums situated behind their society, on the canal. For the past 4-5 years, these encroachments have caused persistent water logging issues as they have obstructed the drainage pipes leading to the canal.

Despite repeated requests and complaints to municipal authorities, no effective action has been taken to address the problem. The blocked drainage system has led to frequent water logging, contributing to a rise in health hazards such as dengue and other related diseases. The lack of response from the authorities has left the residents frustrated and suffering.

In response to the residents’ plight, Dhavale Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Hadapsar at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has assured that a resolution is on the way. Patil stated, “I am scheduling meetings with the residents and concerned officials to find a solution to this issue. We are committed to addressing illegal encroachments and ensuring that such problems are not tolerated.”

The Assistant Commissioner has promised to expedite action to remove the encroachments and alleviate the ongoing water logging issues. The residents hope that these measures will restore normalcy and improve their quality of life.

Sandesh Dalvi, a resident of Amardeep Society, told Pune Pulse, “Due to encroachment and drainage issues, right now 2 to 3 feet of water is stuck in the society. We need immediate attention from PMC to resolve this issue as there are many children and people facing huge problems because of the waterlogging.”

Ulhas Tupe, a social activist from Hadapsar area spoke to Pune Pulse. He said, “There are illegal shanties which often dump mattresses, debris, rotten food in the drainage which leads to choking up of drainage lines. I had written to PMC about the problems caused by these slums but they haven’t acted upon the complaint.”
