Southern Command paid tribute to the legacy of Lt Gen S.P.P. Thorat with the re-release of his autobiography Reveille To Retreat.
Highlighting the timeless relevance of his visionary leadership, the autobiography was jointly re-released by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, GOC-in-C Southern Command, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, GOC-in-C Central Command and renowned author Shiv Kunal Verma, in the presence of Gen Thorat’s son Dr Yashwant Thorat & his daughter-in-law Usha Thorat.
The new edition, enriched with previously unpublished papers and photographs, highlights the timeless relevance of Gen Thorat’s visionary leadership.
Lt Gen Thorat was a hero of World War II, who led from the front in the Battle of Kangaw (1945), earning the Distinguished Service Order for exceptional valour. A revered leader, he seamlessly bridged the pre-Independence Army with the sovereign India, embodying foresight, integrity & professionalism.
During his keynote address, the Army Commander highlighted the book’s importance as a testament of soldiering at its finest, and an enduring reminder of exemplary leadership and unshakable commitment, qualities that continue to inspire present and future generations of officers.
