Pune: Roseland Residency Car Cleaners Pledge to Save Birds This Summer

Pune: Roseland Residency CHS, known for its commitment to environmental conservation, has once again taken a step towards protecting birdlife. Recognized with the 2016 Sparrow Conservation Award, the society has been actively involved in providing food, water, and shelter to birds for the past 15 years.
To support sparrows and other small birds in the urban landscape, the society has installed earthen water pots, nest boxes, and feeders throughout its premises. However, with rising summer temperatures and staff shortages, concerns were raised about maintaining these water sources consistently.

In a heartwarming initiative, the society’s car washing staff has voluntarily taken up the responsibility of refilling the earthen water pots daily. Led by senior resident Shri Surendra Jain, these individuals have pledged to ensure a steady supply of fresh water, helping birds stay hydrated and preventing dehydration during the harsh summer months.

Why Use Only Shallow Earthen Pots?
Chandan Chaurasia, a resident and sparrow conservationist, highlights the importance of using earthen pots for birds:
- Eco-friendly & Natural Cooling: Earthen pots keep water cool and maintain its natural quality.
- Stability: Being heavy, they do not overturn when birds sit on them.
- Multipurpose Use: Birds not only drink from them but also use them for bathing.
- Safe Alternative to Plastic: Unlike plastic pots, earthen pots do not release harmful toxins or odors when exposed to sunlight.
This initiative is a shining example of community-driven environmental conservation, encouraging others to contribute towards a greener and more bird-friendly future.
