Pune, February 12, 2025 – The Maharashtra Transport Department has mandated the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. This directive aligns with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 (Rule 50) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) notifications G.S.R. 1162 (E) and S.O. 6052 (E), issued in December 2018.
The move aims to curb vehicle-related crimes, prevent tampering with number plates, and enhance national security. The Supreme Court has also emphasized the necessity of HSRP for all vehicles. In compliance with this directive, the Maharashtra government has instructed vehicle owners to complete HSRP installation by March 31, 2025.
HSRP Installation Process and Fees
The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has designated authorized service providers for HSRP installation. Vehicle owners must book an appointment and pay the required fees through the official website: https://transport.maharashtra.gov.in.
HSRP Fees (Excluding GST):
- Two-Wheelers & Tractors: ₹450
- Three-Wheelers: ₹500
- Light Motor Vehicles (Cars), Medium Commercial Vehicles: ₹745
- Heavy Commercial Vehicles & Trailers: ₹950
Steps for HSRP Booking:
- Visit https://transport.maharashtra.gov.in and select “HSRP Online Booking.”
- Choose the relevant RTO from Zone 1 (RTO codes: MH04, MH09, MH12, MH26, MH27, MH29, MH31, MH37, MH46, MH47, MH49, MH51).
- Proceed to https://mhhsrp.com for booking.
- Enter vehicle details (Registration Number, Chassis Number, Engine Number) for validation.
- Provide owner details and generate an OTP for verification.
- Choose the HSRP affixation mode: at an authorized center or home service.
- Select a convenient date, time, and location for installation.
- Confirm booking details and complete online payment.
- Download and print the HSRP order receipt.
Compliance Deadline and Penalties
Vehicle owners must complete HSRP installation by March 31, 2025. Failure to comply will result in restrictions under the VAHAN 4.0 system, preventing vehicle-related services. Additionally, non-compliant vehicles will face penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
