Pune: With the academic year set to begin on June 16, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a final warning to owners of private school buses and vans operating without renewed fitness certificates. The RTO has expressed serious concerns over the safety of schoolchildren, highlighting that many vehicles remain uninspected despite repeated reminders.

Deputy RTO Swapnil Bhosale stated, “We have repeatedly instructed school administrations and transport providers to comply with mandatory inspections. Special facilities have also been arranged for their convenience, yet some continue to neglect these safety requirements.”

To streamline the certification process, the RTO has set up a dedicated inspection facility at the brake test track office in Dive, Taluka Purandar. These facilities will operate on Saturdays, Sundays, and government holidays from 9 am to 5 pm, exclusively for school vehicles.

The department has made it clear that student safety is non-negotiable. Any school transport vehicle found on the road without a valid fitness certificate will be immediately impounded, and legal action will follow.
