Pune: Sahyadri Hospital Responds to PMC Notice Amid Erandwane Land Transfer Row
Pune, July 17, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sought an explanation from Konkan Mitra Mandal Medical Trust regarding the reported transfer of land leased to Sahyadri Hospital in Erandwane, following concerns over its recent acquisition by Manipal Hospitals Group.
In a notice issued to the trust, the PMC has asked for clarity on whether the lease terms have been violated after Manipal’s ₹6,400 crore acquisition of Sahyadri Hospitals. The 1,976 sq.m. plot in question was leased to the trust for 99 years in 1998, with strict conditions prohibiting subletting, renting, or transferring the property without prior municipal approval.
The civic body has given the trust seven days to furnish details of agreements between the trust, Sahyadri Hospital, and Manipal Hospitals, along with proof of any necessary approvals and payment records.
Responding to the controversy, Dr. Amitkumar Khatu, Chief Legal & Compliance Officer of Sahyadri Hospitals Group, clarified that the recent transaction pertains only to the transfer of equity shares in Sahyadri Hospitals Private Limited. “This equity transaction has no bearing on the land lease or the hospital’s operations in Erandwane. Patient care and all existing commitments under the PMC lease, including free treatment for referred patients, will continue seamlessly,” he said.
Dr. Khatu further emphasized that the Deccan Hospital, operating under a charitable trust model, remains legally and operationally unaffected. “We urge the public not to be swayed by misinformation. Sahyadri will remain committed to its mission of providing accessible healthcare across Maharashtra,” he added.
The PMC is reviewing the documents and has indicated that appropriate action will be taken if lease violations are found.
