Pune Scorched by Heatwave! Mercury to Rise Further – Find Out What the Weather Will Be Like Over the Next Four Days
Pune, April 18: A heatwave-like situation has gripped Pune and its surrounding areas, with temperatures soaring above 40°C and little respite expected in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in the city is likely to remain between 40°C and 42°C until April 22, after which a slight dip is anticipated.
Since the second week of April, temperatures have been on a steady rise, with intense daytime heat pushing up both maximum and minimum readings. On Wednesday, Shivajinagar recorded a high of 41.2°C, while Koregaon Park and Magarpatta touched 40.8°C. Other areas also saw elevated temperatures — Hadapsar reported 40.2°C, Chinchwad 39.1°C, and NDA 38.9°C. On Thursday, temperatures remained high but showed a marginal decline: Shivajinagar (40.1°C), Koregaon Park and Magarpatta (40.1°C), Pashan (40°C), Hadapsar (39.9°C), Chinchwad (38.6°C), and NDA (38.2°C).
Dr. Sudip Kumar, senior meteorologist at IMD, stated that hot and humid conditions are expected to persist over the next few days. “Temperatures will remain in the 40°C to 42°C range until April 22. After that, increasing moisture in the atmosphere could lead to cloud formation and a slight drop in temperatures,” he said.
The rise in temperatures is being attributed to hot winds blowing in from northern India. In addition, a cyclonic circulation located about 1.5 kilometers above sea level over northwest Rajasthan is influencing the larger weather pattern. This has led to the formation of a low-pressure belt stretching from northwest India through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu down to the Gulf of Mannar, potentially increasing the chances of cloud development and isolated rainfall later in the week.
Residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, stay hydrated, and avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.
