Pune, July 24, 2025: The Pune City Traffic Police have witnessed a significant rise in public reporting of traffic violations, with 4,071 complaints registered through the newly launched Public Traffic Police (PTP) mobile app between June 13 and July 22, 2025.

Of these, 3,101 complaints led to successful issuance of challans, while 930 were rejected due to insufficient evidence or unclear visuals, and 40 are still under review. The app has emerged as a key tool in engaging citizens to report offenses such as triple-seat riding, illegal parking, wrong-side driving, use of mobile phones while driving, and unauthorized entry of heavy vehicles in restricted areas.

June saw 1,319 complaints with 951 challans generated, while in July the numbers remained consistent, peaking on July 22 with 218 reports. Overall, more than 76% of complaints resulted in fines, showcasing the app’s effectiveness in aiding enforcement.

Launched officially on June 14 by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at Vidhan Bhavan, the “PTP TrafficCop” app was developed by Pune Police to promote public involvement in traffic management. Only citizens with no pending traffic challans can use the app to report violations, ensuring accountability. Every report is reviewed within 48 hours, and the identity of the whistleblower remains confidential.

Apart from traffic offenses, the app also lets users report road-related issues such as potholes, accidents, waterlogging, oil spills, fallen trees, and abandoned vehicles. These are then forwarded to the relevant municipal departments for faster resolution.

Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Patil noted that the spike in complaints reflects growing civic awareness. “We urge more citizens to use the app responsibly. Public participation is crucial for improving road safety,” he added.

The initiative marks a progressive step in combining technology and citizen engagement to ensure better enforcement and safer roads in Pune.
